Smarter Lights, Lower Energy Consumption: Noida International Airport deploys Panitek Smart Lighting Solution
National, India - August 28, 2025
Noida International Airport (NIA) has deployed Panitek Smart Energy’s smart lighting solution across the airport campus, bringing intelligent, on-demand illumination that adapts to real-time activity. The system uses smart controllers and motion-sensing and dynamic dimming technology to provide light only when and where it’s needed, supporting safer operations while reducing wastage. The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor for the airport, Tata Projects Limited (TPL), has facilitated this deployment through Signify Innovations India Limited.
Built around Panitek’s Smart Streetlight Controllers, the solution enables dynamic dimming, remote monitoring, and fault alerts. In comparable deployments, such systems have delivered up to 70% energy savings, around 50% lower maintenance, and more than twice the component lifespan by reducing unnecessary run-time and stress on fixtures.
The intelligent lighting system combines sensors detecting vehicles and measuring traffic volume. This setup help the airport adjust brightness based on movement and activity patterns, improving visibility when needed and conserving energy when areas are clear.
“Our goal is simple: light when needed, as much as needed. Smart lighting gives our operations teams real-time control, reduces energy use, and lowers maintenance effort—supporting a seamless passenger experience from day one,” said Nicolas Schenk, Chief Development Officer, Noida International Airport.
To further strengthen data-driven operations, the system also integrates ambient air-quality sensor in select locations. The compact units track PM1.0/2.5/4/10, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), NOx, temperature, and humidity, feeding real-time insights to facilities teams.
The system can be monitored, tuned, and maintained centrally - reducing downtime and supporting consistent service quality across the airport campus.
About Noida International Airport
Noida International Airport (IATA code - DXN) will connect the greater Delhi area and Western Uttar Pradesh with other cities in India and the world. This world-class airport will combine Swiss efficiency and Indian hospitality to offer rich experiences and comprehensive commercial attractions and services to its passengers. NIA is committed to an ambitious net-zero emissions goal supported by sustainable design and operations principles.
Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) was established for the development, construction and operation of the greenfield project - the Noida International Airport. The company, a 100% subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is responsible for the implementation of the public-private partnership project in close partnership with the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India. The concession period for Noida International Airport commenced on October 01, 2021, and will run for 40 years. At its opening, the airport will feature one runway and one terminal and handle a capacity of 12 million passengers – with the potential for further development in additional construction phases.
